Weekly Photo Challenge: Surprise

corleyfoto surprise

Quite a few years ago, we spent a week at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee. We stayed in a sort of bed and breakfast that was actually a converted assistant living facility that went belly-up. I wasn’t at all thrilled with the accommodations as I’m one who likes to have my privacy when I’m just chillin’. But a great surprise to me was that where the lodgings were located, we had a fantastic view of the sunset each evening.

Reelfoot Lake,  is a shallow, natural lake, situate in the northwest corner of Tennessee in Lake and Obion Counties. It was formed after the 1811 New Madrid Fault earthquake which was the largest earthquake recorded in the United States east of the Rockies. (Thank you Wikipedia!)

Another plus for me, a genealogy fan, I located my long-lost great, great grandmother in Obion County in 1880. After much searching through census records, I was able to find her under her misspelled name of Daufield, instead of Lacefield. Just goes to show, you never know what surprises you will find if you keep looking!
