Snorkeling at Buck Island Reef National Park, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; is about as adventurous as I get. Buck Island Reef National Park is located just 1 1/2 miles from the island of St. Croix and can be reached only by boat. Along the underwater trail on the east side of the island are plaques denoting information about marine flora and fauna commonly found in the area. Having not had much experience in snorkeling, the large underwater formations at times felt almost creepy. It takes quite a while to see all the formations, and if you tend to get cold quickly, as I do, it would be a good idea to invest in at least a short wetsuit as I found an hour in the water to be more than I could comfortably tolerate.
