Feasting on Fish

Bald Eagle Feeding on a fishHere in the St. Charles area we are very close to the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. We get all the all the benefits and downfalls of living in a river community, the worst of which was the 500 year flood in 1993 which completely inundated the northeast corner of our county. But one of the greatest boons of living so close to these rivers is being part of the Mississippi Flyway. Each year between December and February, the American Bald Eagle migrates down the Mississippi River and comes to roost along the trees and bluffs of the Mississippi near West Alton and Portage Des Sioux in Missouri and Grafton and Alton in Illinois. I spotted this eagle feasting on a fish in a tree along the banks of the Mississippi.
